Boyfriend on Demand was such a great concept. I absolutely love that we're getting more virtual reality plot lines lately. It's one of my favorite tropes because it adds so much variety to the romance genre. I mean, the possibilities with something like this are basically endless. Fake boyfriends, AI boyfriends, digital worlds, identity chaos-sign me up. I really hope we keep getting more of these kinds of stories. And while we're at it, can we also get more video game romance plots? Because those are elite too.
Honestly, I love when shows lean into the anonymity and privacy of the internet. It adds a whole extra layer to relationships. People act differently online, secrets happen, emotions get weirdly intense-it's just such a fun dynamic to explore.
But anyway, back to the drama before I spiral into a whole TED talk about internet romance tropes.
I really enjoyed Jisoo's acting in this. She's genuinely such a good actress. When I watched Snowdrop, I didn't even put it together that it was her at first. I just kept thinking, "Why does she look so familiar?" Meanwhile, it was literally Jisoo the whole time. Her acting has honestly never disappointed me, and I really hope we get to see her in more roles because she clearly has a knack for it.
Multi-talented queen behavior.
And the cast overall? STACKED. I swear they just went down a list of amazing actors and said, "Yes. All of them." Things acting across the board was fantastic, and I loved seeing so many familiar faces pop up throughout the show.
Now we need to talk about Kang Jun, because that man is FINE, like... offensively fine. I was so sad we barely got any romance in Undercover High School, so when he showed up here, I was like, "Oh, we are being FED today." Thank you, drama gods.
But we also cannot forget our male lead, In Guk. I loved him in Doom at Your Service, and I still love him now. He did such a great job portraying Keyong Nam and his other role in the show that, honestly, it just made me like him even more.
The production quality was also really good. The CGI in the first episode was a little intense at first-I was briefly concerned we were about to enter full video game cutscene territory-but after that, it balanced out really nicely and ended up adding a fun layer to the story.
Now I know the whole "dating fictional guys" concept might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I actually think the show wrapped it up in a really satisfying way. It didn't leave that weird, uncomfortable feeling that some shows do when they deal with virtual relationships.
The ending especially kept that warm, happy vibe going strong, and the last couple of episodes were just very feel-good overall. The chemistry between the actors also felt really natural.. It wasn't super dramatic or explosive, but it was sweet and refreshing to watch.
Overall, I don't have any complaints. It was just a genuinely fun watch.
So if you're in the mood for a light, feel-good romance with a virtual reality twist and a cast full of people who are both talented and extremely attractive, I would definitely recommend putting Boyfriend on Demand on your watchlist.
Your future binge-watching self will thank you.
